3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Preproduction model. The preproduction model is defined as a production model of the product which the manufacturer shall produce in the fulfillment of the contract. As soon as practicable after award of the contract or order and prior to submission of any complete units for final acceptance, the contractor shall furnish a complete Follow-Me Kit Assembly to determine conformance to the requirements contained herein. Examination and tests shall be as specified herein. Approval of the preproduction model by the activity concerned shall not relieve the contractor of his obligation to supply equipment as specified herein. Any changes or deviations of the production units from the preproduction model shall be subject to the approval of the contracting officer.
3.2 Materials. Materials shall be in accordance with the applicable drawings and recycled and recovered raw material should be used to the maximum extent possible in lieu of virgin raw material as long as these materials do not jeopardize the intended use and fully comply with all contract requirements. Materials used shall be free from defects which would adversely affect the performance or maintainability of individual components or the overall assembly. Materials not specified herein shall be of the same quality used for the intended purpose in commercial
practice. None of the above shall be interpreted to mean that the use of used or rebuilt products will be allowed.
3.3 Design. The Follow-Me Sign shall conform to all drawings in 2.1 and specifications listed thereon.
3.4 Construction. The Sign shall be constructed to withstand the stresses and strains normally encountered in service and shipping.
3.5 Performance.
3.5.1 Vibration resistance. Equipment shall operate without malfunction and shall subsequently evidence no permanently deformed, cracked, or broken parts if subjected to vibrations normally expected of this type item.
