4.3.2.5 Inspect dress and routing of wiring inside sign. Any binding or possibility of chafing of insulation must be eliminated.
4.3.2.6 Inspect cable and connectors for proper assembly.
4.3.3 Perform tests as follows:
4.3.3.1 Check all wiring for grounds using an ohmmeter known to be accurate in the 20 megohm range. The resistance between any conductor to ground shall be at least 20 megohms.
4.3.3.2 Connect the sign to a suitable 12-volt power source.
4.3.3.3 Operate sign to determine if all lights are operating properly.
4.3.3.4 The equipment shall be properly attached to a vehicle and the vehicle driven over an improved road at 50 miles per hour for a minimum distance of 5 miles. Upon completion of this road test, all controls, components, and accessories shall be checked for proper operation. The equipment shall be properly attached to a vehicle and the vehicle driven over an unimproved road at a minimum of 15 miles per hour for a minimum distance of 5 miles. Upon completion of this road test, all controls, components, and accessories shall be checked for proper operations.
4.4 Acceptance inspection. Acceptance inspection of each unit shall include all examinations necessary to insure compliance with the requirements of the drawings and specifications listed herein, and shall include tests contained in 4.3.3.2 and 4.3.3.3.
5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY
5.1 Sign processing. Sign shall be processed for shipment from manufacturer's plant to initial receiving activity in accordance with manufacturer's standard commercial practice.
6. NOTES
6.1 Intended use. The Follow-Me Sign is designed for use on either a Jeep or Pick-Up Truck and its specific purpose is to furnish electrical directional signals to taxiing aircraft on runways. It is the intent that the directional signals shall be controlled by an electric powered switch box which is operable by the driver of the vehicle.
6.2 Ordering data. Procurement documents should specify the following:
a. Title, number, and date of this specification.
b. Selection of applicable levels of preservation, packaging, and packing (see Section 5).
